Each day during our evening meal, We have a delightful guest near the
kitchen window. He's a tiny little fellow who has a place of honor on our
front porch.
On the porch, I have a small hanger that holds plants, but on this hanger
instead of a plant, I have placed a hummingbird feeder. It has enticed many
birds ( and a few wasps and ants) over the years to come and dine with us.
This particular little bird is extremely alert. I believe he spends more
time perched and cautiously watching the activities around him than he does
eating.
His tiny head twists and turns continually watching for predators and other
hummers that may fly in to share a meal. He's not much for sharing, and will
boldly try to run another hummingbird off. Then he will quickly grab a
little to eat and perch again.
He goes through this process while we are finishing our meal.
Occasionally he'll relent and allow the others a few quick tastes of the
nectar.
As summer progresses, we'll have an increase of dinning guests, and he'll
have no recourse but to share. He will be overcome by more than he can fight
off.
1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) warns us to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."
It's so easy to become lulled in to a false sense of security. But God has
given us a way to overcome. If we put on the Armour of God each day, we have
the protection we need. Ephesians 6:11-18 We will be able to stand against the
wiles of the devil. We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word
of our testimony.
As the time of Christ's coming draws near, let us keep our eyes fixed on
him, keeping our hearts and minds ever set on his love. Then when the day
has come, we will sit at his banquet feast and dine with the Master. Amen!
